Online gambling industry giants bwin have renewed their sponsorship deal with top Spanish football club Real Madrid. The deal will see Bwin’s brand name being printed on the shirts and sports kit of the Real Madrid players, exactly as it is now and has been in the past. Real Madrid is one of the biggest football clubs in the Spanish league, La Liga. It is rivalled only by Barcelona, so the renewal of Bwin’s deal to sponsor them is a very important one for the progression and expansion into Europe of the Bwin brand.

Bwin have spent a very large amount of time over the past year or so trying to expand into Europe, with varying amounts of success. They are currently involved in a legal suit with sports betting brands in Portugal, over laws about where and how far they are allowed to legally expand. Although they have had less success in Portugal, the sponsorship deal means that Bwin’s name will continue to become very well known in its nearest neighbour, Spain. Bwin are currently based in Austria, and their expansion into the rest of Europe has so far mainly focused on the southern part of the continent.

The renewed deal will see the Bwin name printed on the shirts and the rest of the sports kit of the Real Madrid players until 2013 at the earliest. Since the sponsorship deal has already been renewed, clearly the organisations are compatible and there is a high chance that it will continue after 2013 too. So far the deal has run for two years, since the 2007 to 2008 season. The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, has voiced his support of the sponsorship renewal and said that it is a good move, since Bwin understand the needs and workings of sports teams. This makes sense, seen as Bwin as a brand specialising in sports betting and gaming.

England manager Fabio Capello has said to have made a strict limited access rule for all England players’ partners at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The Italian was said to have been horrified on seeing images of WAGs out on parade and causing much distraction within the media spotlight. This World Cup he wants nothing but 100 percent focus on the game.

With many of the England player’s having high profile spouses it is no wonder there was a circus surrounding the WAGs in Baden-Baden, Germany in the 2006 World Cup. Sanctions have been placed to limit players from having too much contact with their families during training and important match preparation.

As yet there are no firm plans as to where the WAGs will be accommodated during the World Cup tournament, although there is some speculation over a base being organised by agents in Mauritius. If this be true then the families of the England players can fly in to South Africa to attend and support the England matches. But it has been made quite clear that contact periods will be restricted to 24 hours. Capello has made it very clear from the start that he wants no unnecessary distractions for his side.

Although much of the footballers wives attendance in Germany was pretty harmless it was of course brought into the spotlight by the media constantly following them on their every move. But because of the media hype and distraction, the England manager at the time Sven-Goran Eriksson was the one at whom the blame was directed at. Capello insists there will be no repeat performance.

As England beat Croatia 5-1 to qualify for a place in the World Cup in South Africa next year 2010, David Beckham made his 114th cap for England. Manager Fabio Capello has indicated on several occasions how he feels about the mid fielder and his firm plans to keep Beckham in the squad.

2010 will mark the fourth World Cup appearance for the 34 year old and Beckham only needs to play in 12 more games in order to break England’s all time appearance record, currently held by retired goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

Talking about David Beckham Capello said, "He is always with us because for me he is one of the most important players. He is good in the group and he is good in every moment during the training. Some players are important for the position and morale of the group."

Despite a positive outlook for a place in the England squad the LA Galaxy midfielder will have to rejoin AC Milan in January and failing that another top European side to play for in the preceding months before the World Cup tournament kicks off.

Beckham was played as substitute in the Croatia game that put England through to qualify for South Africa with two games to spare. The last World Cup in Germany saw Beckham playing whilst still overcoming an injury. He needs to stay fit and avoid injury which could jeopardise his game if he wants a full guarantee in Capello side. If he stays fit and continues to play well, the midfielder has a good chance of taking Shaun Wright Phillip’s place in the 23 man squad.

Following the surprise signing of Michael Owen this season, there is now much speculation that Premier League Champions Manchester United is in talks to launch a bid for the Valencia winger David Silva.

According to a newspaper source the European giants were after signing the Spanish star last year 2008 but were unsuccessful as the young 23 year old player decided to stay at the Mestalla and continue playing for his Valencian club. But with the market now open and bids in full circulation Manchester United, coached by Sir Alex Ferguson, has once again got its eye on Silva.

Reports have word than Ferguson is set to bid £25 million for the Spanish international once the transfer window re opens. Despite Valencia rejecting all initial approaches for the younger player it seems that the £25 million might just persuade a sale. It is rumoured that top football clubs Liverpool and Real Madrid were also extremely interested in purchasing David Silva.

Should Valencia agree to sell, then Ferguson is hoping to seal the deal sometime in January 2010. The big man is said he would much prefer to secure the services of Silva well in advance of the commencement of the World Cup as he believes the young star could excel in his international games and as a result his value would become inflated thus raising the stakes in the buyer’s market.

David Silva is without doubt a talented player and has represented Spain at every level. With the news of a possible move to Old Trafford, Manchester United fans will be watching Silva’s performance during the World Cup tournament to see just what he is actually worth.
